Dear Driensie

Thank you for your contribution to my life and business this year! I am grateful for the lessons learnt and the milestones celebrated. Before we head into the final weeks of 2018, I wanted to leave you with these thoughts.

Not everyone gets to take considerable time-off over these next few weeks, but even if yours is as short as a day or three, here are my gifts to you:

1. Look for the positives

Keep your eye open for good work, smart ideas, a helping hand, or a great attitude. Be sure to praise others when they contribute or are thoughtful. Look for the positive qualities in difficult guests, crabby family members or frustrated team members, and let them know you’re grateful for them.

2. Force tech time-outs

With your out-of-office in place, update your Whatsapp status to say the same. Slow down this season and limit the distractions of technology by forcing some tech time-outs where you don’t respond to any messages or calls. Look at the people in the room with you, appreciate the view you have and feel the freedom to shut your eyes for a completely impractical and unobjectionable nap. Your phone, messages and emails will always be there later.

3. Hug lots and hug often

Do away with handshakes this season – hug everyone! AI will soon replace so many aspects of daily tasks, but one thing it will never replace is a human presence – and nothing reinforces that human presence like a silent hug. Physically appreciate those dear to you and make the most of your festive season.

I wish you a safe and happy end to 2018 and look forward to growing with you in 2019.

Best Regards – Dave Fisher
